Brown Vineyards
Cabernet
The vineyard is located in the Oakville appellation just across the street from Skellenger Lane in the Rutherford appellation. The property lies at the base of the eastern hills on the bench land just above the valley floor.
Twelve leaf. Clone 7 on 5C rootstock. Cane-pruned on a tight, horizontally split, vertical shoot-position trellis. Row orientation is northwest to southeast. The morning side of vine is leafed to allow for good fruit exposure without allowing for sunburn. Fruit is thinned off of weak shoots early after set, and then again at mid-verasion. Crop load is historically four-to-five tons to the acre.
The long-term goal of the family is to work with small producers in creating an ultra-premium Oakville Cabernet that expresses the unique qualities of the vineyard.
