B Cellars Fact Sheet
Address: 703 Oakville Cross Road, Oakville, CA 95462
The extraordinary property is set among some of the world’s most celebrated wineries, including Opus One, Silver Oak, PlumJack, Groth, Gargiulo, and Rudd, in the Oakville AVA that defines great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. A destination in itself, the estate includes a state-of-the-art wine production facility, including more that 15,000 square feet of caves for barrel storage, tours, tastings and private events, and a Hospitality House featuring an interactive, open hearth kitchen wrapped in comfortable seating.
Founded in 2003 by business partners Duffy Keys and Jim Borsack, B Cellars is a premium winery committed to hand-crafted, complex, beautifully balanced, food-friendly wines.
A modern négociant, B Cellars operates a multi-vineyard winemaking strategy, led by winemaker Kirk Venge, to craft exceptional blends and vineyard-designated wines procured from Napa Valley’s most desirable vineyard properties. This approach results in blending matchless varietals to create unique wines with distinct character, depth, and layers of flavors. Acclaimed single-vineyard wines feature prime Napa Valley namesake vineyard sites, including To Kalon, Dr. Crane, Georges III, Missouri Hopper, Star and Stagecoach, to name a few.
Winemaker Kirk Venge brings two generations of Napa Valley winemaking legacy following in the footsteps of his father, renowned winemaker Nils Venge. Kirk has a unique style of his own, combing both Old and New World approaches to his craft.
The name B Cellars and the degree symbol depicted in the B logo derives from BRIX – a metric that indicates the optimal sugar content for the grape at harvest time and provides direction for the alcohol content of the finished wine.
August 2014. The company relocated operations from its Calistoga location to a new, purpose built Oakville winery in mid-August 2014, with full operations commencing in time for the 2014 harvest.
San Francisco-based architectural firm Hart Howerton (Santa Lucia Preserve, Bachelor’s Gulf, Kukio, Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encanto, Four Seasons Residences Scottsdale, Auberge at Palmetto Bluff, Hacienda Cabo San Lucas, etc.) provided planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design services for the new B Cellars Winery.
Among its many attributes, the winery has taken a unique approach to wine tasting with the unveiling of its 5,000-square-foot Hospitality House. Viewed from the cross road, the building’s exterior is reminiscent of a rustic barn clad in corrugated steel that blends in with the surrounding vineyards and native landscape. Up-close it reveals a contemporary flare with center cupola, loads of glass, including large sections that fold away onto outdoor patios, and courtyards overlooking the vineyards. Guests are engaged in a variety of tasting rooms and private event spaces that lead to the chef’s market garden, chicken coop and apiary program that brings many beneficial elements to the vineyards and gardens while doing its part to strengthen the health of the local bee community.
In addition, a six-wicket center-pin croquet court and adjacent event lawn connects the production winery and caves, housing additional tasting rooms, the Grand Salon and barrel storage. Caves for barrel storage are nestled into the hills on the property.
Beckstoffer Heritage Tasting Room
The Beckstoffer Heritage Tasting Room located within the caves showcases B Cellars’ six single‐vineyard heritage wines produced from grapes grown by pioneering grower Andy Beckstoffer from his storied vineyards know as: Dr. Crane (home to the first ever Bordeaux cuttings in Valley), To Kalon, Georges III, Las Piedras, Bourn, and Missouri Hopper. These six vineyards are perhaps the most respected vineyard properties in Napa Valley, widely recognized as producing some of the best wines for which the region is known. A testament to the winery’s long-term partnership with Andy Beckstoffer, the room pays homage to Beckstoffer’s accomplishments and celebrates his commitment to B Cellars.
B Cellars is the only winery where guests will be able to experience wines from each of theses six vineyards.
Referred to as Wine Journeys and Culinary Adventures, B Cellars wine tastings invoke a multi-sensory experience drawing sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch into the equation. Interacting with a wine guide, guests walk the property with glass in-hand connecting with the many facets of the operation, including a barrel tasting within the caves. For example, the Oakville Trek experience is artfully paired with “B Bites” prepared à la minute (cooked in the moment). Various other tasting options are offered, including curated private tastings conducted in specially-designed private salons in the caves and Hospitality House. An open-hearth, interactive kitchen is overseen by Chef de Cuisine — Derick Kuntz.
B Cellars wines represent the diversity of Napa Valley’s terroir through established long-term grower agreements with Napa’s most celebrated vineyards. In addition to the Beckstoffer vineyards, other prime relationships extend to Caldwell, Williamson Ranch, Juliana, Maldonado, Star, Stagecoach, Kenefick, Ehrlich, O’Shaughnessy and Lewelling. Newly planted vineyards at B Cellars (cabernet clones 337, 4 and 169) will soon allow the production of an estate bottled Cabernet.
B Cellars features four proprietary blended wines known as Blend 23, Blend 24, Blend 25 and Blend 26, whose numbers refer to the range of Brix at harvest. Producing approximately 7200 cases per year, B Cellars also produces a Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose and eight small production, vineyard designate wines, all of the aforementioned Beckstoffer Cabernet Sauvignons, a Sangiovese, and a Pinot Noir.
