The 2019 growing season was a lot like a long-distance race. The beginning had its share of intrigue, the middle was steady and predictable, and the end was action-packed. The alternating pattern of warm and cool days throughout harvest allowed the fruit to maintain ideal levels of acidity. Look for fresh vibrant flavors and luscious, silky textures in the wines of the 2019 vintage.

The essence of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The aroma is dark and earthy, with blackberry compote, plums, raspberry and cassis, cherry cola, black olive, and coffee bean. The palate is full-bodied, with bright acidity, mouth-coating tannin, and a bold, glycerol mouth feel. The fruit is balanced between dark berries and brighter red fruits, all with a baked pie and holiday spice element. Dried mushroom and forest floor, black pepper, cedar, and coffee bean aromas continue to complement the palate through the finish, which is exceptionally lengthy, emphasizing the mouth-coating and luscious tannins.
2019 Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon
Planted to vineyards for over 150 years, Beckstoffer Las Piedras traces its history back to the original Mexican land grants. In the 1840’s European settler Edward Bale planted the property, a wedding gift from General Vallejo, to Mission grapes. It became the first vineyard planted in what is now the St. Helena appellation and saw the first wine varietals planted in 1860. In 1983 Beckstoffer Vineyards purchased the property and planted it to two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. Impressed with the quality of the gravelly soil, the farmworkers named the vineyard Las Piedras, which means “little pebbles”.
Dark fruits, wet gravel, and graphite aromas fill the senses. The palate is focused, with a weighty mouthfeel moving front to back and the flavors focus almost exclusively on ripened blueberry, huckleberry gastrique, slate, espresso roast, clove, and the slightest hint of anise. The tannic finish is lengthy and strong.

The aromatics are tilted definitively toward the red fruits, plum, raspberries, and cherries, with oolong and white teas, green olives, and peppery spices. The tannins are fine-grained, dusty, and mouth-filling, and the mouth-feel is generous, with a full and glycerol response around the entire palate. Ripe red fruits, fresh, dried, and baked, are balanced with wet earth, espresso, orange rind, and again those fine-grained, dusty tannins.
2019 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane originally planted >Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard in 1858. During the 1920’s the Chinatown of the City of St. Helena was located on the site. Acquired by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 1997, the vineyard’s gravelly loam soils were replanted in 1998 to multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. This is one of three* Beckstoffer Heritage vineyards that exist within one square mile of each other. It is because of Andy Beckstoffer’s experience, vision, and respect for the land that each vineyard imparts its own distinct characteristics to the fruit it produces.
A vineyard of magical taste proportions. A rare combination of power and subtlety. The aromas are perfectly balanced between red and black fruit as well as between fresh, summer-ripened fruits and complex aromas of pie fillings, gastriques, and shrubs. The mouthfeel is heavy, full, and covers the entirety of the palate. The fruit flavors on the palate mirror the aromas perfectly. The taste is dynamic, building to a crescendoed burst of acidity and melding into a long, toasty, tannic finish that uncovers layer upon layer of holiday spice notes, toasted teas, cocoa, forest floor, and dried flowers
2019 Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard
Cabernet Franc
Dr. Crane Vineyard has become synonymous with world class wine. This historic vineyard is found in Saint Helena and is owned by Andy Beckstoffer who has carved his reputation upon his appreciation for meticulous farming and movement toward sustainability. Rooted in the heart of the Saint Helena AVA, this vineyard was originally planted in 1859 by Napa pioneer Dr. George Belden Crane. The vineyard was replanted from 1998 utilizing modern trellising, multiple clones, and closer vine spacing.
Our Dr. Crane Vineyard designate Cabernet Franc starts with an irrisistable garnet color that can only be matched by the aromas of ripe black plum, baked cherry pie, and fresh boysenberry. Subtle hints of cocoa, graphite and garden herbs gently emerge on the palate. The fusion of an indulgent mouth-feel, spighty tannins and harmonious yet generous finish will appease any yearning for a great wine.
2019 Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon
Missouri Hopper Vineyard has become synonymous with world-class wine. This historic heritage vineyard is found in Oakville and is owned by Andy Beckstoffer who has carved his reputation upon his appreciation for meticulous farming and movement toward sustainability. This special vineyard is located on the western aluvial fan just north of the town of Yountville. The soil type is moderately deep alluvial silty clay loam. The vine’s roots struggle to find water causing them to burrow deep into the earth producing grapes with layered, concentrated, and balanced flavors. Oakville has a long-standing reputation for producing cellar-worthy wines of incredible character.
Brilliantly aromatic, showing a softer, prettier side of the typically powerful Oakville palate. Ripe aromatics of blackberry and raspberry pie and cassis are lifted with fresh floral notes, pekoe tea and cinnamon, cardamom, cedar, and espresso. The palate is full of fresh fruit flavors, bramble berries, strawberry, cherry, and plum with bright acidity and a lively tannic structure.
2019 Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon
William Bowers Bourn II, considered the last Bonanza King of the California Gold Rush, purchased his vineyard in St. Helena in 1872 as a family home and much of the original vineyard land remains in the care of his descendants to this day. A portion of the original vineyard was purchased by Beckstoffer Vineyards in 2010. Planted with head-trained, old-growth Petite Sirah and various clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, the Beckstoffer Bourn vineyard is the newest Heritage vineyard.
The aromas take on equal spice and fruit, with a complex medley of baked pies, compotes, and chutneys, with cola, leather, dried olive, and cigar box notes. The palate furthers the complexity and richness of the nose but is lifted with a burst of ripe black cherries, cherry cola, and dark chocolates. The tannins are softer and mild but with excellent structure.
