A New Partnership

Head north on Route 29 from Oakville into Rutherford. Just before reaching the Rutherford Cross Road and the Napa power lunch headquarters, known as the Rutherford Grill, turn left onto Niebaum Lane. This narrow road, barely wider than a driveway, heads due west towards the Mayacamas. It also serves as a journey through Napa’s history, back to a time when the vineyard owners worked their own rows.

The Morisoli Vineyard was planted sometime in the late 1800’s. Starting in 1902, the rows were tended by Rocco and Lodovina Morosoli, who had recently emigrated from Switzerland to California. If you walk these rows today, you are likely to come across Gary and his son Chris, the 4th and 5th generations of Morosolis tending these vines. They will be driving the tractor, hauling grapes, and loading trucks, working side by side with their vineyard workers, just as their forefathers did for the past 120-some years.

The soils are alluvial clay-loam, deep and well-drained. The soils and the consistently warm days of the Rutherford benchland combine to produce wines of intensity, depth, and focus. Our inaugural vintage of these vines, the 2024 B Cellars “Morosoli Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon, showcases the warmth of the vintage with powerful tannins providing support and structure to a palate of juicy ripe blackberries and cassis. It’s a winner and a great way for us to celebrate what we hope will be a long journey up and down these historic rows!
