Commitment to Excellence

The inaugural vintage of B Cellars Nightwing Vineyard Pinot Noir

B Cellars takes pride in sourcing fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. Our winemaker, Kirk Venge, is dedicated to discovering new vineyards with great potential that consistently produce high-quality grapes for the B Cellars portfolio. He has spent a significant amount of time exploring the Petaluma Gap, the newest AVA in Sonoma, to find exceptional Pinot Noir sites. The Petaluma Gap AVA covers an area of over 200,000 acres, stretching from the Pacific coast at Bodega Bay to Highway 37 at Sears Point on San Pablo Bay, spanning across northern Marin and southern Sonoma counties. One of those exceptional sites is the Nightwing Vineyard, named after the variety of winged creatures, including herons and bats, that come alive as the sun sets over the vines.

Perched at 1200 feet atop the eastern edge of the Petaluma Gap, these vines are exposed to the nearly constant on-shore cool breezes flowing from the Pacific. Nightwing’s climate allows for a healthy and long hang time, developing the singular combination of intensity and finesse that only Pinot Noir can achieve. The gravelly loam soils of these hillsides are coveted by Pinot Noir growers for the complex and perfumed aromatics that they produce in the grapes.

The nose is complex with notes of dried cherry, crème brûlée, blackberry, violets, and hints of cigar box. The palate bursts with fresh plums, black cherry, pluot, and cranberry, leading to more savory notes of Chinese Five Spice, mushrooms, clove, and nutmeg. This wine is centered around a deep core and finishes with silky smooth tannins.
