Thanks to all of you who participated in our Reason for Rosé by purchasing bottles of our 2023 Rosé during May and June. For every bottle purchased, we are donating $2 to the Erin S. Soper Memorial fund, which awards stipends to teachers in our community who sustain thriving school gardens in Napa! A Reason for Rosé raised $2,886! Those dollars will go directly to local teachers to encourage them to continue bringing their students into the vibrant learning setting of a school garden.
Erin Sawyer Soper was a pillar of the Napa Valley community and had close personal ties to B Cellars. Her stepson, Zac Soper, has been an integral member of our shipping team for over seven years, and her cousin, Derek Taylor, has been our Director of Winemaking since 2010. She lived her entire life in the Napa Valley area. She graduated from St. Helena High School and attended the University of California, Berkley. After graduation, she began her teaching career in Napa at McPherson Elementary and then at Willow Elementary (formerly El Centro), where she primarily taught kindergarten and first grade. She had a 23-year career with the Napa Valley Unified School District. During her teaching career, she helped to plant and nurture a garden-based teaching program.
At B Cellars, the partnership between food and wine is an art form. Chef Derick Kuntz’s custom culinary creations elevate the tasting experience, highlighting how flavors in food enhance and interact with the characteristics of each wine. Each dish is crafted to showcase the nuances of B Cellars’ wines, enhancing the tasting journey in our Hospitality House. Now, enthusiasts like yourself can bring this elevated experience home, as Chef Kuntz’s recipes are available for everyone to recreate in your own kitchen.
B Cellars takes pride in sourcing fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. Our winemaker, Kirk Venge, is dedicated to discovering new vineyards with great potential that consistently produce high-quality grapes for the B Cellars portfolio. He has spent a significant amount of time exploring the Petaluma Gap, the newest AVA in Sonoma, to find exceptional Pinot Noir sites. One of those exceptional sites is the Nightwing Vineyard, named after the variety of winged creatures, including herons and bats, that come alive as the sun sets over the vines.
Perched at 1200 feet atop the eastern edge of the Petaluma Gap, these vines are exposed to the nearly constant on-shore cool breezes flowing from the Pacific. Nightwing’s climate allows for a healthy and long hang time, developing the singular combination of intensity and finesse that only Pinot Noir can achieve. The gravelly loam soils of these hillsides are coveted by Pinot Noir growers for the complex and perfumed aromatics that they produce in the grapes.
